INS is organising its annual conference INSAC-22 with the theme “Nuclear Power towards Green Energy in India”. The conference will bring together former and current scientists and engineers to share the new developments, breakthroughs, innovations, updates of the plant performances, challenges and way forward through talks, presentations and panel discussions. The industry partners both from private and public sector who play an important role in pursuing the country’s nuclear power programme will also be there to share their experiences and suggestions.
Nuclear power is going to play an important and definite role along with renewables in achieving the net zero targets by the middle of the century. Most of the major nuclear countries and some non-nuclear countries are seriously considering renaissance of nuclear power along with RE. For this to happen, nuclear must get support from the governments and public in the form of financing, backing of early public approvals, regulatory clearances and site approvals.
India has firm commitment to mitigate climate change and to contribute to the global effort to limit increase of global temperature rise to 1.5O C or less. With the backing of GOI, DAE has clear target to build indigenous 700 MWe PHWR in fleet mode. The need of the hour is to plan and build the plants in-time and in-budget.
Through the annual conference, INS plans to bring out a factual position on ‘the role of nuclear in providing green energy in India through its indigenous PHWRs and the LWRs being built and to be built in technical cooperation with other countries for meeting the short-term goals and through commercial exploitation of the FBR technology and development of thorium-based reactor technologies for the long term strategy.
